Steve Heap has spent a lifetime in the music industry. Following his early days singing in a Lancashire folk group, Steve established a specialist promotion company, Mrs Casey Music, that organised highly successful festivals and events including the Towersey Festival in Oxfordshire and the Sidmouth Folk Festival in Devon. Other events included festivals and concerts in London’s Southbank Centre and the Royal Albert Hall. Steve also branched out to form Mrs Casey Records, which specialises in young up-and-coming artists.
In 1987, Steve established The Association of Festival Organisers, becoming its general secretary, and promoting, supporting and lobbying on behalf of over 200 members, mainly in the folk, roots and acoustic music sector.
In the wider arts and events industry, Steve is a consultant to community arts events in greenfield sites and indoor venues. He is a founder member and current chair of the Events Industry Forum and is an editor of the industry-standard publication, The Purple Guide to Health and Safety at Outdoor Events.
In this memoir, Steve reflects on his early years and his substantial contributions to the folk, roots and acoustic music scene and to the wider arts, events and festivals industry.
